Harper Pledges Surpluses, Dion Touts Energy Tax Plan
Monday, September 08, 2008
Bloomberg -- Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper started his re-election bid by promising to continue delivering budget surpluses after a record 10 in a row and warning that a ``risky'' opposition plan to tax polluters would undermine an already slowing economy.

After Harper, 49, called elections for Oct. 14, Liberal opposition leader Stephane Dion countered that his proposed levy on polluters would be used to spark growth with tax cuts and increased spending. He also pledged to help ailing manufacturing industries that he said Harper's Conservative Party has ignored.

The "man with no plan" is touting budget surplus after going on a pre-election spending spree? If you believe him, then I've got some precious land for sale in Florida that you may like!

No, that was Harpo. But there are some similarities. By the way the surplus is mostly on the massive tax revenue from the excessive price of fuel.

To stabilize gasoline prices we need competition. Otherwise we need price control. With utilities the government regulates the rates. If we want to keep the government out of it, we need alternative fuels independent of the oil companies.

Lobby congress to actively support alternative energy. The oil companies are lobbying congress to support oil without any regulation. Congress will listen to their constituents. Call, write, or e-mail them. They need to hear from thousands of us daily until they get the message. If they don't listen, vote the incumbents out. Look at the mess this country is in, the incumbents are not doing anything worthwhile anyway. We have nothing to loose.

A budget surplus beats our dummie Prez, who has destroyed a surplus, created the largest deficit in our history, cut taxes to the wealthy, started a never-ending war that kills and maims Americans, and sighhhhhh, the list goes on and on.

Why can't our U.S. conservative party (Republicans) have a budget surplus? That's all we get from them is a record National Debt that our grand children's grand children won't be able to pay off!

The Outstanding Public Debt as of 09 Sep 2008 at 02:03:32 PM GMT is:
$9,676,881,960,427.02

The estimated population of the United States is 304,696,184
so each citizen's share of this debt is $31,759.12.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of
$1.93 billion per day since September 28, 2007!

The Gov't spending the country to prosperity NEVER works. Instead of simply spending the "surplus" on things, they should invest it. Build wind farms, they require a large up front investment, but then continue to pay for decades. It would also stimulate the private sector by only buying wind mills made domestically. (or they could buy US made windmills and give the USA back some of the $ the US sends to Canada for oil.)

Does Canada actually have a coherent energy policy? We certainly don't. And is this oil money going to be one of those silly "glide paths" to zero debt/zero deficit? Don't trust any politician that touts it, American nor Canadian..
